The origins of Cortona date back to the Romans and particularly to the son of Annio Viterbese named Crano, who attracted from the amenity of the village while he was cruising along the Tiber river, decided to estabilish here.
The town of Cortona seems to be founded by the Turreni and then by the Etruschi, among who there were Ulisse and Pitagora, from whom talks Aristotele and Teopompo, naming the village “Curtonaia”.
